LET US MAKE SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 18TH SPECIAL :
Like last year we want to give some special attention to the beginning of our pastoral activities for this year. Our joint Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) has designated next Sunday, September 18, for that. We would like to bring our two parishes, OLV and St. Malachy, together in one Mass on Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. After Mass we would like to see all parishioners together in the church hall where, over some refreshments, our PPC will launch our Pastoral Activities for this year.

That should take about 1 1/2 hours. May we count on your presence there? We need every parishioner of our two parishes "to keep us as parishes alive----(and we don't mean finances)". That by the way, is the motto for our pastoral launch this year.

As a build-up to that launch you see "the canopy" or sort of tent at the entrance of the church. It is very much in line with what as followers of Jesus Christ we are: People on a Journey.

PARISHIONERS OF ST. MALACHY - PLEASE NOTE! NO MASS NEXT SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17TH:
Just for once, there will be no Mass at St. Malachy next Saturday evening? Why? We would like everyone to join O.L.V. parishioners on Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. Mass. We already do a number of things together. What better way to express and strengthen that than in coming together around the Table of the Lord Jesus? After all, He is the one in whose name we gather and know each other as brothers and sisters.

NEXT BAPTISM TO BE CELEBRATED ON OCTOBER 2ND:
October 2nd is the Sunday for our next Baptism. That means that we start our preparation this Monday evening, September 12th to be followed by Monday September 19 & 26th. The prayerful support of the parishioners is counted on.

FOOD FOR THE WEEK : DID WE MISS IT?
(Continued from last week) What happens all too often is that soon after we have left the Church on Sunday we forget about the Scripture readings of that Sunday's Mass. They sort of stay in the Church".

That is unfortunate, because The Scripture readings are God's way of nourishing us with his life-giving Word, something not to be limited to the hour we are at Church. On the contrary, it is meant to touch, guide, inspire, nourish us precisely in the places we go to once we have left the church; in other words, where we really live our lives as believers, as followers, of Jesus Christ. So how about taking God's word with us. We take it form our all important Sunday Mass and digest it during the week. How? By going over Sunday Scripture Readings during the week a couple of times. Occasionally, the preacher may even have said something that triggered our interest. We reflect on that with the help of the Holy Spirit (after all, we are believers!)and possibly share an insight with each other. That is the way we support each other in the faith we cherish. Wow! What a readily available means to have us grow in faith! If we do that for the next 10-25 years, we will have a revitalized church on our hands.

There is one catch to it. Let us take our Living with Christ Sunday Missal home and use it there. Come to think of it, the title of the Sunday Missal makes a lot of sense. It is at home and from our home that we are called to live with Christ.

COLLECTION ON SEPTEMBER 25TH:
The collection of the needs of the Church in Canada will be held on Sunday September 25. Why is this collection needed? Where does the collected money go? The money raised helps finance the activities of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops to which your diocesan bishop belongs. Along with his brother bishops, he can, thanks to the CCCB, access unique resources that allow him to better fulfill his mission as pastor. Your donation is essential and the Canadian Bishops thank you for your generous contribution toward broadening the reach of our church. Information: www.cccb.ca or cecc@cccb.ca.
