Food for Thought |
- “I will give you as a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth“. Is it fanciful to speak of the Sacred Space website in this way?
- What thanks we owe to the legions of scientists, technologists and computer buffs who have made it possible to reach round the world in this way. Inspired by a vision of worldwide web, they created the means by which w can fulfill what Isaiah barely glimpsed.

ARE YOU NEW TO OUR PARISH? WELCOME!
Welcome to those who want to make our parish their faith home. You may have come from other places. You may have been “away for a while”. Be assured that we love to have you among us. We would appreciate it very much if you identified yourself at Mass. It would also help if you would take the time to fill out a registration form. The next time you are with us, you may leave it in the collection basket or give it to one of the ushers or to the priest. Thank you and welcome.

THE 49TH INTERNATIONAL EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS (cont’d)
ARK OF THE NEW COVENANT
The preparations for the International Eucharistic Congress got underway with a Youth Summit held in May 2005. At that Summit, they noted how the Cross of World Youth Day had been used and expressed the desire to produce a symbolic object which could travel the country to prepare the way for the Congress.
The Ark of the New Covenant will be used as a tool to help expand the horizons of our understanding of the Eucharist and will serve as the springboard for a wide variety of activities relating to the three main objectives of the Eucharistic Congress:
- To promote catecheses on the Eucharist as the Paschal mystery of Christ.
- To encourage active and conscious participation in the Liturgy through listening to the Word of God, through the Eucharistic offering itself, and through a sense of community in the assembly.
- To take another step towards greater human solidarity through a commitment to transform the world by concrete actions as a sign of the Kingdom in the midst of today’s world.
There is much symbolism as well as art in this work. Click here for details on what you will see on this Ark of the New Covenant.
And here is our answer to last week’s question: “Why are we looking at details about this Congress a full six months before it is to occur”?
This Ark of the New Covenant comes to our own backyard (so to speak). Click here for more info.

THINGS ARE BACK TO “ORDINARY” IN THE CHURCH
We are now into “Ordinary Time”, as it is called in church language. The calendar that the Church follows is very much as in life itself; we have our high and low points, and a lot of grey and ordinary areas in between. In all of it, Jesus Christ is the one who leads the way for us and in whom God graces us.
But this “Ordinary Time” won't be for long, because Easter is rather early this year (March 23). That means that Lent with its purple starts early too: February 6.
Our thanks to those who contributed to making the Advent-Christmas season with its celebrations significant for our ongoing faith journey.
THIS WEEK (JANUARY 20-27) - WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY
The theme for this year is "Pray without ceasing!" (1 Thess. 1:5;17). This week’s bulletin contains a second
insert, this one with some biblical reflections for each day of that week.
Could we take a few minutes each day to use those reflections, either individually or as a family? That sort of reflection at home is what we are called into: the essential role of prayer within the life of the Christian community as its members grow in their relationship to Christ and to one another.
COMMUNITY PRAYER GROUP TO START UP JANUARY 31
Community members who wish to pray for/on behalf of their community (from the very local to the very international) will have the opportunity to do so. Community members who wish to have a special prayer mentioned on their behalf will be able to leave their petitions with this prayer group.
Our plan is to have a “Prayer Petition Box” at the back of each parish to allow us all to add our personal requests and petitions at any time. May we have a volunteer at both parishes to accept the responsibility to faithfully take these petitions and requests to the prayer group?
This weekly prayer devotion will begin Thursday, January 31st at OLV.
PPC MEETING
Tuesday January 22nd at 7:15 pm in the Rectory.
