Food for Thought
  • Paul affirms a solidarity of the human and non-human world in the redemption of Christ. We are born onto an earth of rivers, mountains, plains, forests, animals, birds, fish and plants in their millions. This is the habitat in which God placed us, where we have evolved, and which we have made our own
  • I pray, Lord, that the heaven you prepare for me will echo in some way the earth which I have loved.

ARE YOU NEW TO OUR PARISH? WELCOME!
Welcome to those who want to make our parish their faith home. You may have come from other places. You may have been “away for a while”. Be assured that we love to have you among us. We would appreciate it very much if you identified yourself at Mass. It would also help if you would take the time to fill out a registration form. The next time you are with us, you may leave it in the collection basket or give it to one of the ushers or to the priest. Thank you and welcome.

At the end of May, Development and Peace launched an appeal for donations for the victims of Cyclone Nargis, which devastated Burma on May 2, 2008, leaving 134,000 dead or missing. The following message was received at the Gatineau diocese from Development and Peace in late June:

Dear friends,

I have the great pleasure of sharing the results of our emergency campaign for Burma and would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt thanks for your support, your commitment and your rapid mobilization around this crisis. Despite the various challenges in the field and the very short timeframe, Development and Peace’s network managed to raise $1.8 million in just over two weeks! The situation in Burma made humanitarian action difficult to carry out and the little media coverage received by this crisis did not act in our favour, but thanks to your support, we can contribute not only to Caritas Internationalis’ first emergency response but also to the reconstruction efforts which will soon be underway.

The response from parishes around the country was so impressive that we were also able to encourage the Canadian government to upscale their support to Burma by an additional $1.8 million in a match to our collection. According to the rules of this special fund, we will be allowed to submit our partners’ projects and access additional funding for their work. CIDA will not directly hand over their match to Development and Peace but will respond on the merit of our proposals. This ensures that the funds are attributed to the organizations with the best capacity in the field.

We’ve been able to support the people of Burma since the very beginning but thanks to the money collected, we’ll be staying on for the reconstruction phase.

On behalf of the whole team, of our partners in Burma and most of all, on behalf of the families that were hit by the Cyclone, we thank you for your incredible commitment.

WEBMASTER
Our "WebMaster" steps down: Ambrose Ward has been our Website Administrator since the inception of our website at www.stmalachyolv.com and must now take leave of these duties. He has been a tremendous asset to our 'spreading the Word' out there in the land of the Wide World Web, and we thank him for all his has done in that capacity. And now we must call on a replacement to fill his shoes. To date, however, we have had no offers or inquiries. Since it is unfair to Ambrose to keep him 'on duty' forever like this, the PPC will try its best to take over these weekly tasks, for now. We will continue the search for his replacement though. If you are interested or know someone who might be interested, please let us know! You can contact any one of the PPC members or leave a message with Alma at the office.

CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES
- to Monique & Ken Simpson who will celebrate their 35th Wedding Anniversary on July 21, Congratulations.

THANK YOU
To all who sent their wishes or came to spend time with us, to celebrate our special day. It was heart warming and greatly appreciated. (Signed) Love Evelyn & Jean Paul
