Food for Thought
  • In front of this magnificent building in Rome is a statue recalling a vision of Francis of Assisi, showing as though he and his friar brothers are holding up a crumbling church. It reminds us that the ‘’Church’’ is not the building, but is God’s people.
  • Like Francis we are called to build up God’s people.
  • What is my role here? Can I do more?

ARE YOU NEW TO OUR PARISH? WELCOME!
Welcome to those who want to make our parish their faith home. You may have come from other places. You may have been “away for a while”. Be assured that we love to have you among us. We would appreciate it very much if you identified yourself at Mass. It would also help if you would take the time to fill out a registration form. The next time you are with us, you may leave it in the collection basket or give it to one of the ushers or to the priest. Thank you and welcome.

NOVEMBER - THE MONTH IN WHICH WE REMEMBER THE DECEASED
November is traditionally the month in which we give more attention to the remembrance of the deceased. Christians do so in a unique way based on what is central to our faith; the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

You will see for all the month of November, or at least until Advent starts, the so-called Book of life at the front of the church. The Book of Life contains the names of deceased parishioners and relatives. Some additional pages are provided at the back of the book for that purpose, unless you decide to make up your own page.

It is one way of expressing our faith that the dead find peace with God and will be raised to life when the Lord Jesus comes in glory. The Book is placed next to the Easter Candle which speaks of the ultimate victory of life over death, of light over darkness, in the dead and risen Jesus in which we are called to share.

REFLECTION ON OUR EXPERIENCE ONF THE MONTH OF OCTOBER THIS YEAR
We had one mass per week last month and only at OLV with a visiting priest (Fr. Yves) while our own parish priest Father Gyan was away. How did that go? Your opportunity to reflect and respond to this is now. Talk to any one of our PPC members about it to be sure your voice is heard at the next PPC meeting.

LINDA CAMERON ON HER 2ND EXPOSURE TRIP WITH DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE
Along with 6 other delegates from our diocese, Linda is in Sierra Leone (Africa) for 15 days to meet with some of D&P's partners and to view projects there funded by D&P. We wish them all a safe and fruitful journey. Please remember them in your prayers.

CANCER BOTTLE DRIVE
Are you tired of seeing all those empty soda bottles, cans and beer bottles hanging around? I will gladly pick these up (or you can bring them to the church every Sunday) turn them into cash and donate to the 2009 Relay for Life event.

This event will be held in June 2009 under the Brady Bridge. You were all generous in helping us make this a success event: Will you help us accomplish this again?

Please call Monique at 986-3166 for more information or to have your empty bottles picked up to help raise money for the Cancer relay.

FUNDING PROJECTS WITH USED STAMPS
For many years, members of Development & Peace have been collecting used stamps. They sell them to collectors in order to raise funds for projects supported by the international solidarity organization in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. In Quebec city, a group of dedicated members has been working with stamp collectors since October 2000. They have since raised $25,000, thanks to these little bits of paper that are usually discarded in recycling bins.

The Redemptorist Mission Stamp Collection is another project underway close to home. One cancelled stamp can help feed a child for a day. If you would like to support the Mission, there is a box at the entrance of the church to collect your stamps which will be forwarded to the RedemptorIst missions.
