F O O D   F O R   T H O U G H T

Reading I Acts 10.25 – 26, 34 – 35, 44 - 48 Responsorial Psalm The Lord has revealed to the nations his healing power.
Reading II 1 John 4.7 - 10 Gospel John 15.9 - 17
Food for Thought
  • A person blind since birth cannot understand color. A person who has never been loved can find love a baffling word. I feel I have an inkling of love’s meaning, but how? Whose love was it that taught me the meaning of the word?
  • What do I know about the sort of self-giving that is unearned, unquestioning, looking for no return?
  • Lord, I have so much to learn from you about love.

ARE YOU NEW TO OUR PARISH?     WELCOME!

Welcome to those who want to make our parish their faith home. You may have come from other places. You may have been “away for a while”. Be assured that we love to have you among us. We would appreciate it very much if you identified yourself at Mass. It would also help if you would take the time to fill out a registration form. The next time you are with us, you may leave it in the collection basket or give it to one of the ushers or to the priest.

Thank you and welcome.

Update on last fall’s Development and Peace education campaign

On Tuesday, May 12th, a delegation from Development and Peace delivered 38 boxes filled with postcards addressed to Prime Minister Harper and signed by more than 140,000 people, coast to coast across Canada, who are calling on the Canadian Government to implement legal mechanisms to hold Canadian mining companies accountable for their actions abroad. This delivery brings the total number of cards and letters delivered to Mr. Harper over the three-year Development and Peace Life Before Profit campaign to well over half a million (500,000+).

The presentation took place in front of the Centre Block of the Parliament buildings in Ottawa. Development and Peace members are throwing their support behind the Private Member’s Bill C-300 – the Corporate Accountability of Mining, Oil and Gas Corporations in Developing Countries Act as proposed by John McKay of the Liberal Party of Canada, which was adopted by the House of Commons on April 22nd, 2009.

Michael Casey, Executive Director of Development and Peace said: “We’re not going away. Development and Peace and its members are continuing to stand with the people of the Global South. We insist the Canadian government listen to voters and develop and implement tough legal mechanisms to hold Canadian mining companies accountable for their actions abroad.
