Reading I Acts 2.1 - 11 Responsorial Psalm Lord, send forth your Spirit, and renew the face of the Earth
Reading II 1 Corinthians 12.3b – 7, 12 - 13 Gospel John 20.19 - 23
Food for Thought
  • Sr. Teresa of Avila reflected on Jesus’ capacity to bring peace. “You find yourself in pain, in trouble, and these few words “ Do not be troubled” calm you, fill you with light, and dissipate all your troubles—troubles from which, a few moments before, you would not have believed the wisest in the world could have delivered you”.

  • Let me think about the wisdom of her words.

ARE YOU NEW TO OUR PARISH?     WELCOME!

Welcome to those who want to make our parish their faith home. You may have come from other places. You may have been “away for a while”. Be assured that we love to have you among us. We would appreciate it very much if you identified yourself at Mass. It would also help if you would take the time to fill out a registration form. The next time you are with us, you may leave it in the collection basket or give it to one of the ushers or to the priest.

Thank you and welcome.

POINT OF CLARIFICATION CONCERNING ST. GREGOIRE CEMETERY
It has come to the attention of the OLV Wardens that there may be some confusion regarding the recent policy issued for the St. Grégoire Cemetery. Please note that the objective of the policy is to update leaseholder files and to confirm that the leaseholders are aware of their obligations as leaseholders and, we repeat, not to reclaim burial lots for resale. Hopefully this will clarify any misunderstanding. For more information, please refer to the blue pamphlets that can be found at the entrance of the church.

CHURCH FUNERAL PARKING
Please note that when there is a funeral at our church, a member of the church will contact the City of Gatineau to obtain a parking tolerance. This tolerance will include the streets surrounding the church - Charles Street, Joseph Street, Pine Street and MacLaren Street only. It does not include the parking lot behind the fire station - the parking time limit must be respected in that lot.

This tolerance is usually effective 1 hour prior to the funeral service to 2-3 hours after the service. (Example: if service is at 11:00 am - parking tolerance will be from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm). After this time frame, the regular 2-3 hour parking restriction becomes effective.

NOTE: All No Parking and Handicap Parking must be respected at all times. Parking tolerance or not.

THE PRIESTS OF THE SACRED HEART (S.C.J.) 100 YEARS IN CANADA

Some may wonder what that has to do with us. The Priests of the Sacred Heart (S.C.J.) is the religious community of which our former pastor (Bill Marrevee) is a member. It is 100 years ago that the first Sacred Heart Fathers (that is the way they are popularly identified) came to Canada; to be more precise, they came to Alberta. These first priests came from France and they had difficulty getting more firmly established. It is in the 40’ and 50’s that another group of Sacred Heart Fathers – this time from Holland – came to Ontario and Québec. At first they served as chaplains to the many Dutch immigrants who settled in these two provinces. But they also took on a variety of other ministries which resulted in a more established presence in Canada. In the meantime, that presence has become more fragile; the membership is aging and dwindling as is the case with many other religious communities. In spite of the present challenges it was felt that a 100 year presence in Canada cannot be simply overlooked. So they will honour the 100th Anniversary of their presence by celebrating it in a modest fashion.

The celebration of that Anniversary will take place on the Feast of the Sacred Heart, Friday June 11 at Resurrection of Our Lord Church (where two S.C.J.’s minister), 1940 Saunderson Drive, Ottawa. It will be in the form of a Celebration of the Eucharist at 3:00 p.m. followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. Interested parishioners are most welcome to celebrate with them.

VOLUNTEER ALERT
For those Parishioners who volunteered to help with the washing of walls, curtains and windows in the Rectory, you will be receiving a call within the next week. We are targeting Saturday June 5th as the day to organize an effort to undertake the cleaning of the Rectory. Once again to those who volunteered, thanks you for your support.
