Food for Thought |
The contrast between Pharisees and Publicans has entered so deeply into our culture that it is sometimes reversed; those who go to church may be more anxious to be at the back of the church than to be in the front pews. How does this story hit me? I would have to be the object of people’s contempt. But Lord, if they knew me like you do, they might be right to feel contempt. And I have no right to look down on those whose sins are paraded in the media as public sinners. Be merciful to me.

ARE YOU NEW TO OUR PARISH? WELCOME! |
Welcome to those who want to make our parish their faith home. You may have come from other places. You may have been “away for a while”. Be assured that we love to have you among us. We would appreciate it very much if you identified yourself at Mass. It would also help if you would take the time to fill out a registration form. The next time you are with us, you may leave it in the collection basket or give it to one of the ushers or to the priest.
Thank you and welcome. |

DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE
|
|
Last week, you read in the bulletin that more and more people in the north are giving up bottled water and that companies are now focusing their efforts on developing new markets in the Global South. Bottled water companies are a growing threat to the water sources of rural communities in the Global South.
Included with this week’s bulletin is a small pamphlet prepared by Development and Peace, which provides a great deal of information on water, both in the north as well as in the Global South.
This year, Development and Peace will be asking us to promote access to safe drinking water for everyone. One of the ways we can do that is to take action to help make public places bottled water free zones. More on this next week.

LITURGY COMMITTEE MEETING
There will be a meeting of the Liturgy Committee for both parishes on Wednesday, October 27th at 1:30 p.m. to be held in the OLV Rectory. The agenda for the meeting is to begin planning for Advent which begins on Sunday, November 28th. All those involved in Liturgy are welcome.
INVITATION - Diocesan Faith Formation
Suzie Arsenault, who has replaced Sr. Alice for the coordination of faith formation at the Diocese, is inviting all Anglophones who are interested in faith formation to attend a meeting at the Diocesan Center, 180 Mont-Bleu Boulevard, on Saturday, November 6th 2010 from 9:00 am to 12:00 p.m. The goal of this meeting is to share experiences as far as catechesis goes. Suzie would also like to know the needs of the Anglophone parishes so that she can accompany us in our tasks as catechists.
Who are the catechists in our parishes? For sure, those who are involved in the preparation for sacraments: i.e. Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. But catechists are also those who are leading us in Liturgy: i.e. servers, Eucharistic ministers, lectors, etc., members of the Parish Pastoral Council, as well as the parents of those preparing for sacraments. This is the second meeting organized by the Diocese specifically for the English parishes. Anyone interested in "faith formation for any age" is invited to this meeting.
