Food for Thought

The Sadducees try to trick Jesus who then lifts them above the human tangles in which they are trapped, to a cosmic vision.

“He is God not of the dead but of the living, for to him all are alive. ”We are part of that cosmos that embraces Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as well as our ancestors to the beginning of creation. In the resurrection we will share the eternal now of God.

ARE YOU NEW TO OUR PARISH?     WELCOME!

Welcome to those who want to make our parish their faith home. You may have come from other places. You may have been “away for a while”. Be assured that we love to have you among us. We would appreciate it very much if you identified yourself at Mass. It would also help if you would take the time to fill out a registration form. The next time you are with us, you may leave it in the collection basket or give it to one of the ushers or to the priest.

Thank you and welcome.

NOVEMBER - THE MONTH IN WHICH WE REMEMBER THE DECEASED

November is traditionally the month in which we give more attention to the remembrance of the deceased. Christians do so in a unique way based on what is central in our faith: the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

In our two parishes, we have a tradition of leaving our Book of Life at the front of the church for the month of November. The Book of Life contains the names of deceased parishioners and relatives. Some additional pages are provided at the back of the book if anyone wants to add names. It is our way of expressing our faith that the dead find peace with God and will be raised to life when the Lord Jesus comes in glory. The Book is placed next to the Easter Candle which speaks of the ultimate victory of life over death, of light over darkness, in the dead and risen Jesus. We are called to share in that victory.

At the beginning of mass next weekend, Fr. Yves will lead us in a short ceremony to honour the deceased. We invite the families who lost someone in the past year to participate by lighting a candle from the Easter Candle during that ceremony. We will also remember in a special way those who lost their lives in service to their country.

INVITATION - DIOCESAN FAITH FORMATION REMINDER
All Anglophones who are interested in faith formation are invited to attend a meeting at the Diocesan Center, 180 Mont-Bleu Boulevard, on Saturday, November 6th 2010 from 9:00 am to 12:00 p.m.

Who are the catechists in our parishes? For sure, those who are involved in the preparation for sacraments: i.e. Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. But catechists are also those who are leading us in Liturgy: i.e. servers, Eucharistic ministers, lectors, etc., members of the Parish Pastoral Council, as well as the parents of those preparing for sacraments. This is the second meeting organized by the Diocese specifically for the English parishes. Anyone interested in "faith formation for any age" is invited to this meeting.

Back to the tap

This is the title on the pledge card you will be asked to sign this weekend.

The bottling and selling of water creates a culture where drinking water is viewed as a commodity or a private good, available only to those who can afford to pay. In the Global South, sales of bottled water are on the rise. At the same time, water sources are increasingly being privatized. Bottled water should never be viewed as an alternative to safe, accessible public water systems. By signing the pledge, you commit to supporting publically owned and operated water systems. One of the ways you can do that is to choose tap water over bottled water, whenever possible.

Extra pledge cards can be found on the table at the entrance of the church, as well as two documents; the 6 Principles of the 5-year campaign and a 4-page tabloid on the Water for All Let Justice Flow campaign. Please take as many copies as you want.

THANK YOU TO THE CARRIERE FAMILY
The estate of Lowell and Rose Carriere has generously bequeathed $1,000.00 to Our Lady of Victory Parish. These funds will be directed to supporting our roof project. Our best wishes go out to the family (Jim, Kathy, Tom, Nancy and Larry) as well as to their spouses and children.
