This very broad and extensive area of parish life could not possibly be contained within any single committee. As a faith community, we are all called to transmit the Good News of Jesus Christ to the world. It is by our very baptism that we are all called to share our faith with each other, growing and maturing in our life-long journey towards God, Father, Son and Spirit.
Not so long ago, the word catechesis only brought to mind childhood and adolescence. But we are aware today that our whole lives are crisscrossed with moments of catechesis: times of awakening, initiation and training; times of questioning and new beginnings; times to recharge one’s batteries and times to grow. We have so many challenges to deal with, to decide on, to live with – at all ages throughout our lifetimes here.
It is in this transitory stage that we find ourselves: working to propose and support various catechetical activities that are inclusive of the whole community and tied to those life-giving and life-supporting sacraments - with introduction to the faith and with initiation but also with ongoing maturation and growth for all. We are all called to share along the way.
