Our parish priest Father John Braganza, OSB, arrived August 4th, 2025, at our parish. OSB signifies that he is a member of the Order of St. Benedict.He is a Benedictine monk and priest.
He was born in England, raised in India and at the age of 19 immigrated to Canada with his parents and youngest sister. He is the fifth child of six children, three boys and three girls.
In 1983 he discerned a call to the priesthood in the diocese of Prince George. His Bishop, Fergus O’Grady, OMI, sent him to study at the Seminary of Christ the King, in Mission, BC. This seminary is conducted by the Benedictine Monks of the Swiss American Congregation. While there he discerned a call to join the community.
In 1989 he made his Solemn Vows with the Community. After his ordination to the priesthood in 1992 he taught for over thirty years in the Highschool and Major Seminaries at Christ the King. He was elected Abbot of the monastery in 2005, a role he fulfilled for sixteen years. When he resigned in 2022, he took a sabbatical year for renewal. In 2023 with the permission of his Abbot he agreed to spend time pursuing Biblical studies.
In July 2025 Archbishop Paul Andre Durocher invited him to work in the Gatineau archdiocese. With the permission of his abbot, he is now spending a three-year discernment period with us after which he will decide whether to return to his community or continue to work for the Archdiocese of Gatineau.
