Why are there 50 days of Easter?
Here is a good overview to help us answer one of those questions that come out of the mouths of babes!

Easter is not just "Easter Day," it is the fifty days from Easter Day until the Day of Pentecost. During this season, Sundays might be better named "of Easter" rather than "after Easter" ("The Third Sunday after Easter," for example, is better termed "The Fourth Sunday of Easter").

Easter, Ascension, and Pentecost do not form three seasons. The Easter season celebrates the three dimensions of the resurrection, ascension, and the sending of the Spirit.

These fifty days, one-seventh of the year, form our great "Sunday" of the year. "Alleluia! Christ is risen. He is risen indeed. Alleluia!" forms the greeting in every service during Eastertide. Similarly "Alleluia! Alleluia!" can added to the Dismissal and the people's response to help to give these celebrations a distinctive festal feel.

This is also why the Paschal Candle is lit at every service up to and including the Day of Pentecost, and why we sing "Glory to God in the highest" from Easter Day through the Day of Pentecost.

BAPTISM PREPARATION SESSIONS
Sessions are presently being given. Baptism will be on May 4th. Please remember the parents in your prayers.

SICK & SHUT-INS
If you have family members, friends or know of someone who is sick in hospital or at home, please call the office and father Gyan would be pleased to visit them. The number is 819-986-3763.

BLESSING OF YOUR HOMES
As is the tradition in India, the water that is blessed at Easter, is taken by their parish priest to bless the homes of his parishioners during the Easter Season. For any families that are interested in having their homes blessed, please call the office at 819-986-3763, and leave your name, address and phone number and we will be in contact with you as to the day that Fr. Gyan will be in your area.

PRAYERS & SYMPATHY

THE CHANTERELLE
- cordially invites you to attend their Spring Concert April 27th from 2:00 pm at the Knights of Columbus. Tickets are 15$ each and includes a light lunch. Tickets are available at the door on April 27th, or from any Chanterelle member, or from Tabagie Rose Marie at the lights on Main Street in Buckingham.

OLV PARISH SUPPER
OLV will be holding a Ham & Beans Supper with salads and desserts. There will also be a silent auction. Admission is Adults $12:00, Children 6-12: $6:00 and children under 6: free. There will be a limited number of tickets.

FAMILY PORTRAITS
If you are interested in having a family portrait taken, a photographer will come to the church and meet with those interested after a mass. No date has been decided. This will depend on the numbers interested. Please call the office, at 986-3534, if you are interested.

USED STAMPS
One cancelled stamp can help feed a child for a day. If you would like to Support the Redemptorist Mission Stamp Collection, there will be a box at the entrance of the church to collect your stamps, and they will be forwarded to the Missions.

ST. ALOYSIUS PARISH BIBLE STUDY
Are you interested in increasing your knowledge of the bible? St.Aloysius parish, 300 Abbe-Murray, Gatineau has organized a bible study, which started April 7th and will be on Mondays every two weeks at 7:30 in the church basement. If you were unable to attend and would still like to join them, please call the parish at 819-663-5244.

RELAY FOR CANCER April 7, 2008 Dear fellow parishioners, I am part of a committee that is organizing, with the aid of the Canadian Cancer Society, 12-hour Relay for Life event on June 13th at McAndrew Park here in Buckingham. Our committee is responsible for the planning of events for the survivors and fighters of this terrible disease. This will include a meal, some presentations and the coordination of the Victory Lap, which will open this event. I will be taking part in this 12-hour relay and am asking you for your help as follows: You can sponsor me, for any amount. I will have a banner listing all the people I am walking for. You can purchase a candle for $5.00 it will be lit and placed along the Victory Lap at 10:00 pm. This will be an encouragement for all the walkers to pay tribute to these people. This candle will have a label with In Memory of or In Honor of followed by the persons name and a little message. You can give me all this information and money and I will ensure that your candle is placed along the Victory Lap. A donation box has been placed near the stairs for your contribution. It will be there every Sunday until the end of May. If you know any survivors or fighters of this disease please let me know so we can invite them to this special event. Please provide name and telephone number. This is our way of remembering and respecting those who have either won, are still fighting, or who have lost the battle from this terrible disease.
