Food for Thought
  • • The father will give you another Counsellor, the Spirit of truth …you know him, for he dwells with you and will be with you. I know, Lord that the same Holy Spirit joins me to you as joined Jesus to his father.
  • That the Spirit dwells in me, an abiding presence whose voice can easily be drowned by my everyday plans and concerns.
  • To be open to the spirit, I must quieten first my body, then my heart.

ARE YOU NEW TO OUR PARISH? WELCOME!
Welcome to those who want to make our parish their faith home. You may have come from other places. You may have been “away for a while”. Be assured that we love to have you among us. We would appreciate it very much if you identified yourself at Mass. It would also help if you would take the time to fill out a registration form. The next time you are with us, you may leave it in the collection basket or give it to one of the ushers or to the priest. Thank you and welcome.

BAPTISM - AN INVITATION
Baptism in Jesus’ name, makes us united with Jesus Christ, which includes becoming members of Christ’s Body, the Church, or a member of God’s holy people. That is not a vaguely spiritual matter, but a concrete one of membership in an actual real parish community and of being active in its life.

Therefore, the families preparing for Baptism are extending this invitation to you, their Faith community, to celebrate with them the Baptism of their children. SUNDAY, MAY 04, at 2:00 p.m. AT O.L.V. CHURCH.

FATHER GYAN
- will be at the rectory at OLV on Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. You may contact him at 986-3763. In case of emergency you may contact him at St. Aloysius Parish at 663-5244.

BLESSING OF YOUR HOMES
As is the tradition in India, the water that is blessed at Easter, is taken by their parish priest to bless the homes of his parishioners during the Easter Season. For any families that are interested in having their homes blessed, please call the office at 819-986-3763, and leave your name, address and phone number and we will be in contact with you as to the day that Fr. Gyan will be in your area.

SICK & SHUT-INS
If you have family members, friends or know of someone who is sick in hospital or at home, please call the office and father Gyan would be pleased to visit them. The number is 819-986-3763.

A different, but still beneficial English Zone meeting.

The turnout was a bit disappointing at last Saturday's meeting of representatives from the English parishes in our Diocese. Did the beautiful weather get in the way?

At the last four sessions we have held, the focus has been on some aspects of the diocesan document Discovering Jesus Christ: the Path to Freedom. This time we had a guest speaker, Father Bill Burke. He had read that document along with the minutes of our four previous meetings. What he did was link all that with some quotes from a document that Pope Paul VI wrote in 1975 on evangelization in today's world. At first sight, a somewhat surprising link, but on second thought a clear indication that what we are wrestling with in our Diocese is not unique to us. There are huge challenges that we face, when it comes to living from and bearing witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our time. For the moment we have to be satisfied with small, even tiny steps towards getting a handle on the situation. That is what our meetings at the Zone level -- but also at the local level -- are clear evidence of. One thing we cannot do is run away from it, close our eyes to it and wish that it would all go away. It won't.

With the Feast of Pentecost approaching we may want to -- and we certainly need to -- ask the Holy Spirit to give us the faith, the strength and the perseverance we need to hang in there. Or to put it another way, we pray that the Spirit may help us find some hands and feet to put on -- what is not an easy bumper sticker slogan, but rather the hard-fought profession of faith "I know that my Redeemer lives".

RELAY FOR CANCER

A committee has been organized, with the aid of the Canadian Cancer Society. A 12-hour Relay for Life event will take place on June 13th at McAndrew Park here in Buckingham.

Our committee is responsible for the planning of events for the survivors and fighters of this terrible disease. This will include a meal, some presentations and the coordination of the Victory Lap, which will open this event.

To sponsor people, to buy candles which will be lit along the Victory lap, to make donations or for any other information, please call Monique Simpson at 819-986-3166. If you know survivors or fighters of this disease, please give their names to Monique.

A donation box has been placed near the stairs at Our Lady of Church for your contribution. It will be there every Sunday until the end of May.

This is our way of remembering and respecting those who have either won, are still fighting, or who have lost the battle from this terrible disease.
