Food for Thought |
- Jesus moves slowly toward Simon and Andrew, conscious that he is disturbing their work, but calling them to another task. When he speaks that incredible ‘’Follow me’’ they felt his attraction and knew: This is somebody you can take a risk with.
- You look at me, Lord, and I look at you as you ask me to work for a kingdom of justice and love...

ARE YOU NEW TO OUR PARISH? WELCOME! |
Welcome to those who want to make our parish their faith home. You may have come from other places. You may have been “away for a while”. Be assured that we love to have you among us. We would appreciate it very much if you identified yourself at Mass. It would also help if you would take the time to fill out a registration form. The next time you are with us, you may leave it in the collection basket or give it to one of the ushers or to the priest.
Thank you and welcome. |

Canadian Archbishop gives first-hand account of most recent Israeli-Palestinian conflict
|
Most Reverend James Weisgerber, Archbishop of Winnipeg and President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops, has just returned from a trip to the West Bank with other Bishops from Europe and North America. This year’s annual visit took place in the midst of the Israeli incursion into Gaza. “All of Gaza is destroyed,” says Archbishop Weisgerber. “We met with people who were beside themselves with fear and worry about the situation. Development and Peace, through Caritas, has an excellent record of assistance in the region and it’s imperative to help them.”
Development and Peace has just sent $150,000 to its partner Caritas Jerusalem to distribute blankets, medical supplies and food to thousands of victims of the latest violence in Gaza. “While both Israel and Hamas have adopted a ceasefire, peace is precarious,” warns Gilio Brunelli, Director of International Programs at Development and Peace. “Our partner Caritas Jerusalem is struggling to help Palestinians who have lost their families, their homes and their belongings and who are suffering psychological trauma. We ask that the Canadian public continue to support us as we provide the victims with relief and advocate for peace on their behalf.”
Contributions to Development and Peace can be made by telephone (1-888-664-3387), online, or by cheque (marked “Emergency: Gaza”) sent to the following address:

What is Relay for Life?
|
Relay for Life is the Canadian Cancer Society’s unique, hope-filled community event held mostly throughout the month of June across the country
Monies collected helps the Canadian Cancer Society fund promising research projects; provide information services & support programs to improve the quality of life of those touched by cancer; advocate for public policies & promote healthy lifestyles & strategies to reduce the risk of cancer.
Recruit 10 people and then select a captain. The captain will register your team and then receive a Team Captain’s Kit containing important information for all members of your team. Each team member must collect $100.00 to participate.
To open the event at 7:00 pm on June 5th, 2009: Cancer survivors, and those in treatment, are invited to walk the first lap (known as the VICTORY LAP) of the Relay for Life to acknowledge and celebrate their courage in the struggle against the disease. During this Victory Lap all Relay participants, family members, friends and colleagues will cheer them on.
At dusk candles (luminaries) are lit in a moving ceremony, providing light & inspiration as Relay participants walk through the night. Luminaries are candles placed along the Relay for Life walking track. Each bears the name of a loved one who has either survived cancer or lost his/her life to the disease. (Luminaries can be purchased in advance, at stores around town, or on site the day of the event for $5.00 each).
REMEMBER cancer NEVER sleeps and neither will we during this 12-hour relay.
Please support this cause.
