Food for Thought
  • The beatitudes offer a glimpse of Jesus’ interior landscape, of the sources of his happiness. They are not legislation, but an interior vision, fired by a hunger in this world and by confidence in a future when the mourners will be comforted, the poor will be enriched, and the meek will inherit the earth.

  • We know that the love of riches can lead to neglect of God and of the poor. The Christian community has always tried to make the care of the poor its priority, as it is God’s priority. Is it mine?

ARE YOU NEW TO OUR PARISH?     WELCOME!

Welcome to those who want to make our parish their faith home. You may have come from other places. You may have been “away for a while”. Be assured that we love to have you among us. We would appreciate it very much if you identified yourself at Mass. It would also help if you would take the time to fill out a registration form. The next time you are with us, you may leave it in the collection basket or give it to one of the ushers or to the priest.

Thank you and welcome.

MARRIAGE PREPARATION COURSE
The next Marriage Preparation Course will be offered on November 13-14-15, 2009. Two couples Bob and Genevieve Flynn, and Rick and Francine McCendie from St Mark’s lead these sessions together with Angela Davis and Louise and Gordon MacMillan from St. Aloysius parish. For your information, there will be two vaccination centers in the Papineau region, operating from November 9th until December 18th:

  • King Pin Bowling Lanes, 210 Sauvé Street (corner of Dollard)
  • Centre Récréatif de Saint-André-Avellin, 352 Rossy, Saint-André-Avellin

The hours of operation will be Monday to Thursday from 9:00 am until 8:00 pm and Friday from 9:00 am until noon.

The vaccination will be provided in two phases: first, the higher risk group (pregnant women, young children, people with chronic diseases and those who provide assistance to them, health professionals and their staff); and second, the general population who have not yet received the vaccination. You will need to bring your health card.

English copies of the Influenza A(H1N1) pamphlet can be found at the entrance to the CSSS Papineau Hospital at 155 Maclaren Street East, the CLSC at 578 Maclaren Street East and the CLSC at 617 rue Principale. A copy has been posted on our bulletin boards at the entrance to the churches – please do not remove!

PRAYERS & SYMPATHY
Please remember Jeanine Filiatreault Cressy , daughter of Betty Filiatrault, in your prayers. Her funeral took place last Thursday at OLV. Our prayers & sympathy are with Betty and her family.

THANK YOU - A Heartfelt Thanks To Norman MacMillan
Wardens, on behalf of all Parishioners of OLV, would like to thank Norm for once again coming to the aid of our Parish. Norm had generously agreed to provide a donation of $3,500.00 towards the cost of repairing the garage roof. A total of $1,000.00 will be provided this year, with $2,500.00 to follow next year. So, the next time you see Norm, take a moment to thank him for his continuous support for our faith community.

DID YOU KNOW?
That OLV and St. Malachy’s were part of a group of churches and social clubs that joined together on an annual basis to put out a submission for heating oil. The group consists of our two parishes, St. Stephens Anglican church, Église Évangélique Baptiste de la Lièvre, St. Grégoire de Nazianze and the Buckingham Curling Club. Together, a total of 94,000 litres is the amount of oil usage companies are requested to bid on. As a result of this collaboration, our two parishes have been able to save on an average of almost 13 cents a litre over the past few years. This is just another example of how partnership arrangements can result in savings.
