Food for Thought |
- What a prospect of learning you open up for me, Lord! The Holy spirit is to go on teaching me all my days, reminding me of your words, and unwrapping their meaning in all my circumstances.
- And the sign of his work in me will be peace. My heart will be untroubled, unafraid.

ARE YOU NEW TO OUR PARISH? WELCOME! |
Welcome to those who want to make our parish their faith home. You may have come from other places. You may have been “away for a while”. Be assured that we love to have you among us. We would appreciate it very much if you identified yourself at Mass. It would also help if you would take the time to fill out a registration form. The next time you are with us, you may leave it in the collection basket or give it to one of the ushers or to the priest.
Thank you and welcome. |

LIFE IN THE SPIRIT SEMINAR - St. Aloysius Parish in Gatineau
Friday, May 14th and Saturday May, 15th - Friday, May 21st and Saturday May, 22nd. This Seminar takes place over the course of two weekends, which are designed to help participants establish and deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ. The teachings, discussions, praise and worship, and prayer lead participants to experience an awakening of the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit, bestowed at Baptism and Confirmation.
Fridays will be 7:30 to 9:30 pm (in the hall) - Saturdays will be 9 am to 4 pm (in the hall) Please consider this invitation to join us and share it with your friends - everyone is welcome. Once you have decided, you will need to register with Carol Léonard by calling the St. Aloysius office at (819) 663-5244. Thank you and God bless.
POINT OF CLARIFICATION CONCERNING ST. GREGOIRE CEMETERY
It has come to the attention of the OLV Wardens that there may be some confusion regarding the recent policy issued for the St. Grégoire Cemetery. Please note that the objective of the policy is to update leaseholder files and to confirm that the leaseholders are aware of their obligations as leaseholders and, we repeat, not to reclaim burial lots for resale. Hopefully this will clarify any misunderstanding. For more information, please refer to the blue pamphlets that can be found at the entrance of the church.
OUR LADY OF KNOCK SHRINE - UPDATE
This year the pilgrimage will be held on Sunday, Aug. 8th. Archbishop Terrence Prendergast of the Ottawa diocese will be the main celebrant and homilist.
COMMITTEE
Brian Roos and Cheryl Cameron have resigned as chairperson and secretary, respectively. The committee on behalf of the parish would like to convey their appreciation for the time and devotion they have given to the shrine. Cheryl is to be commended as well for all the hours she volunteered towards the music and choir for the pilgrimage mass and liturgies. At a recent meeting, Sandra Pearson accepted the nomination for chairperson and Ellen Butler will take on the secretarial duties. The parishioners and committees of both the shrine and the church wish to extend our gratitude to Lee Butler for his invaluable service and the commitment and expertise that he brought to his role of treasurer for the past 25 years. Joan Teske will replace Lee as Treasurer. A heart felt thanks to everyone who shares their gifts for the benefit of our parish community and shrine.

THANK YOU FROM OLV WARDENS
Thank You Ann
After many years of excellent work, Ann Price has decided to leave the baptismal team. Her dedication and devotion to the Baptismal file will be greatly missed. The Wardens of OLV would like to take this opportunity on behalf of all Parishioners to thank Ann for her contribution to the well being of our faith community.
There will be a need to replace Ann and it is an issue which needs to be addressed sooner than later.
A Lovely Ceremony
Last Sunday, 4 young parishioners were confirmed by Archbishop Roger Ebacher at OLV. After the service, parishioners, the celebrants, their families and guests were treated to a light lunch in the church basement. As is the case with most Parish activities, none of this would have happened if volunteers were not available to provide their support.
A special thank you to:
- Joanne Lambert of St. Aloysius and Amanda Foley of St. Columban Parishes for their work in preparing the celebrants, their parents and godparents for the sacrament of Confirmation.
- The OLV society for preparing and organizing the lunch in the church basement following the mass
- The parents and godparents for their commitment and encouragement in support of the young celebrants

FREE CONCERT
Buckingham’s Heart & Soul Singers welcome you to a free concert directed by Daniel Lafleur. The concert will be held on Thursday May 13th 8:00 pm., at Our Lady of Victory Church. Donations will be accepted for OLV & St. Malachy Churches. Coffee and desserts will be served in the Sacristy.
CHURCH FUNERAL PARKING
Please note that when there is a funeral at our church, a member of the church will contact the City of Gatineau to obtain a parking tolerance. This tolerance will include the streets surrounding the church - Charles Street, Joseph Street, Pine Street and MacLaren Street only. It does not include the parking lot behind the fire station - the parking time limit must be respected in that lot.
This tolerance is usually effective 1 hour prior to the funeral service to 2-3 hours after the service. (Example: if service is at 11:00 am - parking tolerance will be from 10:00 am -. 3:00 pm). After this time frame the regular 2 to 3 hour parking restriction becomes effective.
NOTE: All No Parking and Handicap Parking must be respected at all times. Parking tolerance or not.
