Food for Thought
"I shall have many things to say to you, but you cannot hear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you."

ARE YOU NEW TO OUR PARISH?     WELCOME!

Welcome to those who want to make our parish their faith home. You may have come from other places. You may have been “away for a while”. Be assured that we love to have you among us. We would appreciate it very much if you identified yourself at Mass. It would also help if you would take the time to fill out a registration form. The next time you are with us, you may leave it in the collection basket or give it to one of the ushers or to the priest.

Thank you and welcome.

WE ARE BACK IN ORDINARY TIME
The Church’s year is made up of two high seasons (Lent-Easter and Advent-Christmas) and two blocks of what, in Church language, is called Ordinary Time. It is most noticeable in the changed décor of the church. The Easter banners have gone and on most Sundays the priest wears green vestments. Some of the music which is integral to the Mass also tends to be different. We will be in that mode for a good stretch of time, basically until the Advent season begins, November 28th.

Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule: this Sunday (Trinity Sunday) and next Sunday (Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ). The vestments are white to mark the two feasts that the Church observes on these Sundays. These two feasts could be seen as spin-offs from the enormous and foundational event we celebrate in the 50 days of Easter and for which we have been preparing in the 40-day Lenten season: the crucified Jesus being raised from the dead. Trinity Sunday makes us focus on the source of that central mystery of our faith: the communion of life and love which is God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ makes us face the Mystery of the Eucharist where, ideally, we are formed as a communion which has its origin in the communion of God Father, Son and which is called to reflect that communion of Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

THIS IS THE YEAR OF LUKE, ALSO CALLED YEAR C
This is typically church language! It has to do with the Scripture readings at Sunday Mass, more specifically the Gospel reading. You will notice that on Sundays in Ordinary Time this year, the Gospel reading is taken from Luke’s Gospel.

As you know, we have four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The first three of these are called the Synoptic Gospels. Each one of them has been assigned a particular year. Year A gets Matthew’s portrait of Jesus; Year B gets Mark’s portrait of Jesus; and this year, Year C, we hear the story of Jesus through Luke’s eyes.

Is there no year where the Gospel according to John is assigned? Compared to the Synoptic Gospels, John’s Gospel is quite different. Instead of giving John a particular year, we hear John’s version of Jesus in all three years in various places, especially in the high seasons. The Easter Season we just concluded is a good example: almost all Gospel readings for that season are taken from John’s Gospel.

RELAY FOR LIFE REMINDER

CHURCH FUNERAL PARKING
Please note that when there is a funeral at our church, a member of the church will contact the City of Gatineau to obtain a parking tolerance. This tolerance will include the streets surrounding the church - Charles Street, Joseph Street, Pine Street and MacLaren Street only. It does not include the parking lot behind the fire station - the parking time limit must be respected in that lot.

This tolerance is usually effective 1 hour prior to the funeral service to 2-3 hours after the service. (Example: if service is at 11:00 am - parking tolerance will be from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm). After this time frame, the regular 2-3 hour parking restriction becomes effective.

NOTE: All No Parking and Handicap Parking must be respected at all times. Parking tolerance or not.

VOLUNTEER ALERT
For those Parishioners who volunteered to help with the washing of walls, curtains and windows in the Rectory, you will be receiving a call within the next week. We are targeting Saturday June 5th as the day to organize an effort to undertake the cleaning of the Rectory. Once again to those who volunteered, thank you for your support.
