Reading I Isaiah 49.3, 5-6 Responsorial Psalm Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.
Reading II 1 Corinthians 1.1-3 Gospel John 1.29-34
Food for Thought

Somehow John the Baptist realized that this Jesus is the one to come. In the guidance of the Spirit, John has come to make Jesus known, and in Jesus’ baptism John realized—he knew in his deepest being—that this was the Son of God.

What we know and discover in prayer, in our hearts, is often difficult to share or prove to another. Today, allow yourself to open your heart to what the Spirit of God teaches in prayer.

ARE YOU NEW TO OUR PARISH?     WELCOME!

Welcome to those who want to make our parish their faith home. You may have come from other places. You may have been “away for a while”. Be assured that we love to have you among us. We would appreciate it very much if you identified yourself at Mass. It would also help if you would take the time to fill out a registration form. The next time you are with us, you may leave it in the collection basket or give it to one of the ushers or to the priest.

Thank you and welcome.

SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION
Our two parishes are in the process of determining if there will be sessions for sacramental preparation for Reconciliation/First Communion as well as Confirmation. In order to better plan for these sessions, parents should register with the Secretary no later than January 30th, 2011 for both sacraments. Once registrations are received, we will determine what, when and where these sessions will be offered.

THE CHRISTMAS SEASON COMES TO A CLOSE
For the last six weeks we have been in one of the Church’s high seasons: Advent/Christmas. The focus of this 6-week season is on the coming of Christ: his coming that took place some 2000 years ago in Bethlehem; his coming that takes place now in the proclamation of God’s word and in the celebration of the Sacraments; and his coming in glory that we look forward to in joyful hope.

We are now back into what in Church language is called Ordinary time. It is most noticeable by the green vestments that the priest wears in that season, but it also shows in the Scripture readings chosen for this season and in the orientation of the Church’s prayers. We will be in that mode until March 9 when the forty day Lenten period begins.

Our thanks to those who contributed to making the Advent/Christmas season with its celebrations significant for our ongoing faith journey.

PRAYERS & SYMPATHY
- are requested for Veronica Belter, mother of Maureen, Beverley, and Dawson whose funeral took place this week. Also, your prayers are requested for Raymond (Buck) Lavigne, husband of Lois MacDonad, who has also passed away this week. Our prayers and sympathy are with the families during this difficult time.
